Winfred Wandia Kisau is accused of hiring a hitman to execute her friend’s business partner.

Winfred Wandia Kisau, the middle-aged woman suspected of hiring a hitman to kill her friend’s business partner, has been released on a Ksh.300,000 cash bond after pleading not guilty to conspiracy to commit murder.

Kisau is accused of conspiring with other people who are not in court between July 1 and August 2024 to assassinate businessman Anthony Maina Mutahi.

Kisau, through her counsel, informed the court that she is a single mother with a seven-year-old dependent. She was subsequently given cash bail.

The DCI reported that the suspect and the businessman were involved in a legal fight over a prime property, which is thought to be the motivation for the alleged murder plan.

Police also disclosed that two other important suspects in the case remained at large.

Mutahi was purportedly targeted for murder in July 2024, according to an application filed in court by an investigative officer from the Central Police Station at the time. The assassination plot was foiled in early August.

In his affidavit, investigating officer George Karanja named Kisau, Rosemary Muathe, and Marvin Omondi Absalom as key actors in the murder plan.

In July 2023, the businessman signed a leasing deal with the owners of a building in town. A witness indicated that 21 days later, another woman who had earlier claimed ownership of the same building appeared and made the same claim.

The dispute over the property, which Mutahi sought to purchase for Ksh. 1 billion, resulted in judicial action.

Justice M.D. Mwangi of the Environment and Lands Court directed the parties to the initial leasing agreement to proceed to arbitration and resolve any outstanding concerns. Despite this, Muathe allegedly continued her activities, including breaking into the property.

“We reported this to the police in Kamukunji, and the fight for ownership has continued. “She used influential people and all sources,” the witness said.

Police said Kisau introduced Absalom to Muathe, which led to multiple meetings to plan the murder.
