What Geoffrey Mosiria stated regarding the court orders
The 30 suspects were charged and given community service orders at a City Court on Tuesday, August 20.
After being taken into custody, some of the detainees were made to sweep the Central Business District (CBD), while others were tasked with tidying up Uhuru Park. Director of Nairobi County Environment Geoffrey Mosiria, speaking at City Mortuary, predicted that others will learn from the punishment.
“We thank the magistrate for the conviction, some have been directed to clean Uhuru Park, others streets of Nairobi and others here at City Mortuary. Let this be a lesson to others. We have not suspended county laws, anyone who will be found littering and dumping garbage will be arrested and arraigned in court,” Mosiria said.
The arrest of the 30 people came after Mosiria launched a strict crackdown on illegal urination in Nairobi county.

He said under Governor Sakaja Johnson’s leadership, they are committed to restoring order and dignity in Nairobi.
Mosiria urged Nairobi residents to report illegal dumping activities, as those responsible will also face severe penalties.
“This is a firm warning: adhere to the law, or face the consequences. Anyone caught urinating in the streets of Nairobi will be arrested and face legal action. Tonight, 30 people have been apprehended in the CBD and will appear in court,” said Mosiria.
According to the Nairobi Public Nuisance Act 2021, urinating or defecating in a public place can result in a KSh 10,000 fine, a six-month jail term, or both.

How a dirty hotel was exposed by Mosiria
Elsewhere, Nairobi’s county government closed a popular kiosk hotel in the heart of the Central Business District (CBD) due to hygiene violations.
On Thursday, August 15, Mosiria, alongside public health and environment officials, exposed a shockingly unhygienic kiosk hotel in the Bus Station area of Nairobi’s Central Business District.
Mosiria said the kiosk hotel has been closed indefinitely, pending substantial improvements to meet Nairobi county’s stringent health and safety regulations.
